William R. Bates
Felton - William R. Bates passed away Monday evening, July 6, 2015. He was 85 years old. Bill was the son of the late Fred and Helen Bates of Hingham, Massachusetts. He spent most of his life in the Boston area and was an avid Red Sox fan. He moved to Delaware with his wife Ella upon their retirement from Boston University.
Bill had a passion for BU hockey, travel and building model airplanes and cars. Family was especially important to him and he never wanted to miss any occasion. Bill leaves behind his loving wife Ella, of 61 years, daughter Janet (Bates) Hunter and her husband Douglas Hunter, son Robert Bates and son Donald Bates and his wife Tina Bates. He is also survived by grandchildren Kevin Hunter and his wife Kristina Swanson, Kathryn Prater and her husband Jeremiah Prater, Jeffrey Hunter and his wife Christy Hunter as well as two great granddaughters, Erica Jane Prater and Hannah Louise Prater. Uncle Bill also leaves numerous nieces and nephews.
A Viewing will take place on Thursday, July 9, 2015 from 6pm - 8pm at Trader's Funeral Home, 12 Lotus Street, Dover, Delaware, 19901. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Friday, July 10, 2015 at 10:00 am with an interment ceremony commencing at 12:30 pm at Veteran Memorials Cemetery, 26669 Patriots Way, Millsboro, Delaware 19966.
