Uncle Bill was a very special UNCLE!! We had so many great times together, starting when I was a little girl. We shared a love of hockey and attended BU vs UVM games for many years even after they moved to DE. What awesome memories. I will miss you Uncle Bill but know you are in a better place. Dear Ella and family,
I am so very sorry for your loss. I have many fond memories of Bill and his love for Ella and his family. We recently had a BU Admissions Reunion and I found an old poem that prominently included Bill (Batesy)...he saved the day against BC and the "Beancan" came back to BU... back in 1984... the final line of the poem was "Batesy, mighty Batesy, for whom we say "YAZ, sir!" There will never be a better among the Mediocre." (Mediocre was the name of our team that year... Just this side of Mediocre.)
A wonderful man to us all. I am lucky to have had the pleasure of sharing in his time at BU. He will always be included in my prayers.

Ella, Donald, Janet and Bob:
Bill was a most important part of my BU experience. You may not know that he took me to my first college fair in Hartford, CT in 1977, taught me how to work a fair, and taught me how to have a nice steak dinner after the work was complete! We had many such dinners together over the years, from Texas to Ann Arbor, Michigan where we watched UM v. OSU in the snow. I will do my very best to see you on Friday.
You have my most heartfelt condolences for the loss of this great man and wonderful mentor.
