Robert F Jones' Obituary
Robert F. Jones, 83, Dover, passed away Wednesday May 21, 2014 at his home surrounded by his family.
He was born on August 11, 1930 in Laurel, Mississippi to the late Ottis and Ethel Davis Jones.
He worked for his father in the family business, Jones Plumbing. He went into the Army at age 17, He served in the Army for 3 years, he was stationed in Japan and was a Guard at Sugama Prison. He met and watched over Tokyo Rose. After serving in the Army, he joined the Navy Reserves. After a short time in the reserves he joined, the Air Force. He was an AP at Kessler Air Force Base, Mississippi. This is where he met his love of his life Helen M. Kennedy. He served in the Air Force for 21 years, and then traveled the world. The family lived in Biloxi, Mississippi; Lackland AFB Texas; Evreux France; and then Dover AFB where he retired in 1969. He was a loadmaster for the 39th squadron at Dover AFB. He told his family many stories about his flights overseas. After retiring from the Air Force in 1969, he went to work for Bennett Security at ILC were they made the astronauts suits and other things. He left there and went to work for Dover Downs as Security, during the construction of the race track and really enjoyed working there. In 1970, he pursued a career in Parks & Recreation and Environmental Control. He became an EPO at Lum's Pond State Park in Bear, DE He was promoted to the Dover Office where, he was in charge of Park Law Enforcement Personnel. He wrote many of the rules and regulations for the parks. He loved the outdoors and meeting travelers that visited the parks. He retired in 1991 after 21 years of service. To pass the time after retiring, he volunteered at Dover Air Base Museum. He helped restore a few of the planes especially the C-133, and worked in the store. He volunteered at the museum for 20 years, until he stopped due to health issues. He is a member of Sugama Prison, American Legion Walter L. Fox Post 2, and Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 3. While he was stationed in France for 3 years his enjoyment was building his micro midget race car Sweet 16. He raced every Sunday. His most enjoyed going to see his grandchildren in school playes, baseball games and when the family got together for celebrations. He loved to watch NASCAR on TV. He is preceded in death by his parents Ottis Jones, Ethel Williams, sister Doris Jo Windym, and the love of his life of 57 years Helen Jones on 2/4/2010.
He is survived by Son, Robert A. Jones (fiancee Patricia Rose) of Smyrna, DE. Daughter, Cathy G. Jones whom lived with him of Dover, DE. Daughter, Barbara (Mark) Smith of Dover, DE. Son, Patrick (Kimberly) Jones of Dover, DE. Grandchildren, Kathy Jo Weaver (Ralph) Weaver, Melanie Easterling (Shawn), Darrell Louder, III (Lesley), Michael Louder (Candace) Daniel Louder (Jennifer), Shelby Smith, Nolan and Kealey Jones, Great Grand children, Majessa Louder, Coryn Louder, Ethan Louder, Jacob Lawson, Zachary Tyre, Jordyn Tyre, Cole Weaver, Kaiden Weaver Shawn Easterling, Bryson Easterling.
Remembrances Services will be held Sunday 05/27/2014 2 PM at Trader Funeral Home in Dover, DE Burial will be at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cem. Bear, DE on Tuesday 05/27/2014 at 11 AM.
Friends may also call Sunday from 12 noon to 2 PM at the Trader Funeral Home in Dover.
