Jerrod Reid Bates' Obituary
Jerrod Reid Bates, age 48, passed away suddenly on September 14th, 2023.
Jerrod was born on November 17th, 1974, at Loring AFB, Maine. He graduated from Dover High School in 1994 where he was a member of the Football team and Marching band. He was known for the nickname “Chief”. After graduation he attended the DeVry Institute of Technology in Ohio where he earned his Associates of Science in Applied Science of Electronics. After graduating he moved to Fort Worth, Texas to work with Nokia before moving back to Delaware. Jerrod received a Bachelor of Science in Information Resource Management degree from Wilmington College. He then went on to earn his Master’s in Business from Wilmington University and countless IT Security related certifications over the years. He worked for 7 years for the State of Delaware in the IT Departments at the Department of Corrections and Delaware’s Legislative Hall. Later he spent 14 years as an Information Security Instructor at Delaware Technical Community College. During this time, he was also an Adjunct Instructor at Wilmington University and Delaware State University. He was currently working for US Cyber Challenge.
Jerrod was a loving father. He loved to spend time with his kids. He was “the” Jeep enthusiast, spending most of his spare time “working on his Jeep”, going off-roading, camping or fishing with Krystian and Alyssia, as well as his many friends. Jerrod had immense compassion. He would give the shirt off his back to help anyone in need. He was a friend to everyone and never knew a stranger. He touched many people's lives, and his presence and love will be missed by everyone he’s ever met.
Jerrod is survived by his son, Krystian Bates and his daughter, Alyssia Bates, his father, Edward K. Bates, his mother, Kathleen Bates, his brother Christopher E. Bates, and sister-in-law Adriana Benas, and his nephews Enric Bates and Jordi Bates as well as his step-grandmother Beverly Bates, countless aunts, uncles, cousins, friends, and his beloved dog TJ.
Family and friends are welcome on Sunday, September 24th, 2023 from 4:00 pm – 7:00 pm at the Trader Funeral Home, 12 Lotus Street Dover, DE 19901 for a gathering and service. A reception will follow at 7:30 pm at Pizza Delight in Greentree Plaza, Dover.
