Jay W Unterkofler's Obituary
After a long illness, Jay W. Unterkofler passed away surrounded by his family on Friday February 20, 2015. He was 61. Jay was born in Philadelphia, PA on May 24, 1953 to Joseph G. and Joan E. Unterkofler, both deceased. He graduated from Northeast High School in Philadelphia, PA and furthered his education at Wilmington College, DE. Jay proudly served in the United States Air Force Active and Reserve from October 1974 to January 1995. He continued his career as a City of Dover Police Officer from March 1981 to June 2006. He also was an instructor with the Delaware Motorcycle Safety Program as a Rider Coach from March 1995 to the present. In his spare time he enjoyed being a VIP NASCAR driver transporter. Some of his other interest included being a board member for Delaware State Sportsmen's Association, and active member in the NRA and FOP Lodge #15, hunting, motorcycle riding and handgun target shooting. He is survived by his family including his wife of 39 years, Kathleen M., son Kevin J. Unterkofler and his daughter Linda M. Unterkofler-Pemberton and Kimberly A. Unterkofler. He also has two grandchildren Mackenzie and Jayce. Jay is also survived by his brother Eric Unterkofler of Philadelphia, PA and sisters Diane Unterkofler of Philadelphia, PA and Karen Roberts of Black Heath, London. Jay was a wonderful husband and father and a great friend to many. He will be greatly missed. Mass of Christian Burial will be Wed. Feb. 25, at Holy Cross Church 631 South State Street Dover at 10:30 AM. Family and friends may call at the church 9 AM. Burial with full military and police honors will be held at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Millsboro, DE at 1 PM.
