William Howard Smith, 94
William Howard Smith passed away on November 6, 2025, at home.
He was born in Parkersburg, W. VA on July 29, 1931, to the late Clinton and May Smith. He attended Parkersburg High School and then worked for the local paper. In 1951, he enlisted in the Unites States Air Force. During his Air Force career, Bill and his family were stationed at several bases including Newfoundland and Labrador, New Hampshire, Korea, Thailand, England, Maine, California, Mississippi, South Carolina with the final one being Dover AFB. He retired in 1971 after 20 years of service. After retiring, he went to work for Delaware Auto Sales and Matthew Motors. Bill married his wife Joan in May of 1952, and they were avid golfers who spent retirement traveling and playing golf. Bill was a member of Eagle Creek golf course at Dover Air Force Base.
Bill was predeceased by his wife, Joan Smith. They were married for 68 years. He is survived by his son Tim Smith and his wife Karen; his daughter Dee Dixon and her husband Ronnie; four grandchildren, Derek Moore, Alexa Smith and her husband Kevin McConnell, Courtney Hacker and her husband Kyle, and Chase Smith; five great-grandchildren, Quinn Hacker, Ryker McConnell, Cooper Hacker, Everleigh Rae McConnell and Kendall Hacker.
