William Bill Olechny's Obituary
William “Bill” Olechny, 80, of Dover, Delaware passed away peacefully on April 9, 2026 at his home. He was a beloved husband, father, uncle and pop-pop and he will be deeply missed.
Bill was born on July 14, 1945 in England to Eileen and John Olechny and the family moved to the states after World War II where they eventually settled in Marydel. Bill served in the US Army for 11 years and later the National Guard for 6 years. He then worked for the Delaware Department of Transportation for 30 years as a supervisor in the Cheswold and Ellendale Maintenance Yards. After retirement, he worked for the Blood Bank of Delaware delivering lifesaving blood all over southern Delaware and the Eastern Shore of Maryland. Once fully retired, Bill delivered Meals on Wheels, traveled and spent time driving his beloved Corvettes with his wife of over 30 years, Kathy.
Bill is survived by his wife Kathryn Ward Olechny, his daughter Maria Olechny (Ralph), his granddaughter Hilary Kimble, his great-granddaughter JayCee Jo Sadlowski and his grandson Brad Kimble; his brother Pat Olechny (Veda) and his nephew PJ Olechny(Lisa); his stepdaughter Robin Smeader (Chris), his stepson Buddy Hyer (Trisha) and his step-grandchildren Connor, Aislinn and Maura Smeader. Bill will also be missed by his many friends, especially those in the First State Corvette Club.
Family and friends may visit Wednesday, April 15 from 11am to 1pm with a service at 1pm at Trader Funeral Home, Inc. 12 Lotus Street, Dover. A private interment will be held immediately following the service.
