Stephen Jeffrey Vockel Sr.'s Obituary
Stephen Jeffrey Vockel Sr. 70, of Frederica passed away Friday July 26, 2024, at Kent General Hospital surrounded by family. He was born January 10, 1954, in Philadelphia PA to the late Elmer E Vockel and Dorothy Clark Vockel. He is also preceded in death by his brother Charles (Chick) Vockel and grandson Tyler Trego.
Through the years he enjoyed sitting in the garage talking to his CB friends, riding his motorcycle, and working in the yard. He loved wood working and doing things for other people. If you needed something fixed or worked on, he was your guy. He loved to tell “dad” jokes and would get such a kick out of himself. He also enjoyed playing the guitar and singing. When he wasn’t around the house, he loved to go out to eat, run errands and site see with his wife. He enjoyed watching Big Bang Theory and Westerns. His favorite was Gun Smoke.
Steve proudly served 21.5 years in the United States Army, retired after 24.5 years from the State of Delaware and was a Life Member serving 50 years to the Bowers Fire Dept.
He is survived by his wife Susanne Vockel, children Stephanie (Jerry) Wales of Smyrna, Cristi (John) Trego of Houston, Stephen (Buster) Jeffrey Vockel II (Hannah Ziccarelli) of Milford, and step son Jamie Plymire Sr. of Frederica.
10 grandchildren – Paige Dennison (Adam Heilman), Tyler Trego, Dylan Trego, Melissa Hall, Roy Hall, Cierra Trego (Alberto Mendez) Jamie Plymire Jr (Codi Walls) Kaleb Vockel, Brayden Vockel, Logan Vockel.
5 Great Grandchildren – Emory Bush, Jeremiah Plymire, Mayson Trego, Nevaeh Plymire, Kai Bush.
A funeral service to honor Steve’s life and service will be held at Trader’s funeral home 12 Lotus St Dover De, August 5th, 2024.
Viewing is from 11-12 and service 12-1. Military honors will be rendered at the graveside at Barratts Chapel Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Wounded Warriors Project, in Steve’s memory.
