Sandra Lee Coffield's Obituary
SANDRA BURGESS COFFIELD, of Magnolia, Delaware, formerly of Wheeling, WV, and the daughter of the late Leland Burgess and the late Margaret Mundorff Pickering, passed away at the home of her son and daughter-in-law on April 30, 2024. She was predeceased by her husband of sixty-six years, L. Dexter Coffield, just three months ago.
Sandy’s early years were spent growing up on a street named after her father, Lee Street, in Glen Dale, WV. She attended St. Francis Xavier Catholic School and graduated from Moundsville High School in 1957. After graduation, Sandy began work at Stone & Thomas in Wheeling, WV, but shortly gave it up to marry Dexter, her high school sweetheart, at Parris Island, SC. She then committed to raising her children and caring for her home in Moundsville, WV. Sandy was always very proud to have been awarded a lifetime membership in the PTA. Before relocating to Delaware, Sandy and Dexter lived thirty-two years in Oglebay Park where they enjoyed walking throughout the park and feeding the deer who frequented their backyard.
Sandy is survived by her three children, Mark (Oli) Coffield of Ho Chi Minh City, Viet Nam; Kelley Coffield of Houston, Texas; and Craig (Judi) Coffield of Magnolia, Delaware. She is also survived by her thirteen grandchildren Burgess (Amy) Coffield of Kaysville, Utah; Asher Coffield of Los Angeles, California; Margaret (Sean) Kozel of Buda, Texas; Peter Scamardo of San Antonio, Texas; Elizabeth Scamardo of Belton, Texas; Danielle Coffield Smith of Magnolia, Delaware; Joshua (Genevieve) Coffield of Lewes, Delaware; and Nathan (Sara) Coffield of Hayward, California; and twelve great-grandchildren.
Following a funeral mass at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, 7th St., Moundsville, WV, on Saturday, May 18 at 1 PM, burial will take place at Riverview Cemetery in Moundsville. In lieu flowers, memorial contributions can be made to St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church or to Delaware Hospice. The family would like to send special thanks to her hospice Nurse Lauren.
