Ruth Semans

Ruth Marie Darling Semans, 88, Dover, walked into heaven on Wednesday, November 22, 2017. Ruth was born June 13, 1929, in Felton, DE to the late Elijah Lawrence and Ora Frederica Remus Darling. She was a 1947 graduate of Caesar Rodney High School. Ruth began her career while in high school, working part time in the office of J.C. Penney. After graduating, she worked as a telephone operator for the Diamond State Telephone Company and then in the office of Delaware Secretary of State for Harris McDowell. That led to her fifty-two-year career with N. Maxon Terry, Sr. and the Terry, et al, Law Firm of Dover. She ended her professional career in the Office of the Kent County Register of Wills serving as Deputy Register of Wills from 2006 thru 2009. Upon retirement, she volunteered at the Delaware Blood Bank. Ruth was a worker, always ready to help others in any way she could. She was active in her church, Viola Methodist, serving as a Sunday School teacher for many years. Later years she was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church in Dover. Ruth was an avid reader who also enjoyed traveling, crossword puzzles. and gardening. Her greatest joy in life was her family. She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Harry Berlin “Buck” Semans, three sisters, Hazel Darling, Doris Darling, Thelma Martin Massey, and two brothers, Bernard Darling and Donald Darling. She is survived by her daughter Becky Semans Calvert and husband John of Fort Worth, TX; granddaughter Jena McNatt George and husband Brian of Fort Worth, TX; grandson Ryan Calvert and wife Micah and three great-grandchildren, Parker Marie, Dylan Rea, and John Harrison Calvert of Albuquerque, NM; two sisters, Frances D. Moore (Herb) of Viola, Myrtle D. Wilkins (Norman) of Milford; brother, Etzel Darling of Woodside, and numerous nieces and nephews. Services will be held on Friday, December 1st, at 12:00pm at Trader Funeral Home, 12 Lotus Street, Dover where friends may call at 11:00am. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Heart to Heart Hospice at hearttohearthospice.com, the Alzheimer’s Association at www.alz.org, or Wesley UM Church of Dover.
