Ruth Schwartz's Obituary
DOVER – Ruth Amanda Dietz Schwartz, age 100, of Dover, passed away peacefully on February 23, 2017. She was born on September 15, 1916 at her family’s home in South Manheim Township, PA, to John Francis Dietz and Edna Reber Dietz. She spent her childhood in South Manheim Township, the oldest of six children, whom she helped look after on the family farm. She spent most of her adult life in Dover, DE, where, when not raising two young boys, she worked for the State of Delaware and the Delaware State Education Association. She was a charter member of St. Andrew’s Lutheran Church in Dover and was an active member until her death. In addition to helping establish and grow St. Andrew's, Ruth was also an active member of WELCA, a Lutheran Church women's group." Her faith was very important to her and she always did her morning devotional and evening prayers. Ruth enjoyed crocheting and quilting and donated quilts to Lutheran World Relief. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 64 years, Winfield L. Schwartz; and her five brothers and sisters. She is survived by her son, Richard Schwartz and wife Michelle Tau of Plainsboro, NJ; her son, Dr. Robert Schwartz and wife Cynthia of Columbia, MO; her sister-in-law, Marion A. McGlinchey of Schuylkill Haven, Pa; and grandchildren Christopher Yung and Melissa Tau Schwartz. A funeral service will be held at St. Andrews Lutheran Church on Thursday, March 2 at 11 a.m. A visitation will also be held at the church at 10 a.m. Burial will be at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Friedensburg, PA. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to St. Andrews Lutheran Church, 425 N. DuPont Hwy., Dover, DE 19901 or Lutheran World Relief at lwr.org.
