Rosalie M. Shields' Obituary
Rosalie “Rose” Marguerite Shields of Frederica, passed away Thursday, November 24, 2022, in Kent General Hospital. She was 82.
Rose was born on April 23, 1940 in Washington, Pennsylvania, daughter of the late Paul Thomas and Julia J. Thomas. She graduated from the Notre Dame (de Namur) Catholic Girls’ High School in 1958.
Rose worked for State Farm Insurance Company from 1958 – 1961, where she met the love of her life Peter (Pete) D. Shields, Sr. They married on November 25, 1961 and traveled around to many different locations via the Air Force, due to Pete’s military service. It was during that time Rose began working for the Army Air Force Exchange Service until her retirement.
During her retirement years Rose enjoyed attending the annual Exchange Group Christmas party, reading, doing crossword puzzles, but most of all she enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.
In addition to her parents, Rose was preceded in death by her beloved sister, Paula Thomas.
Rose was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin and friend and she will be greatly missed.
Rose is survived by her loving husband (one day shy) of 61 years, Peter D. Shields, Sr. of Frederica; her three sons: Peter “Dave” D. Shields, Jr. and his wife Tammy of Frederica, Timothy “Tim” Shields and his wife Dawn of Smyrna, Martin “Marty” Shields and his wife Sheila of Lincoln. She is also survived by her five granddaughters: Rachael Shields, Rebecca Shields, Elizabeth Shields, Amber Wechtenhiser and husband Nick, and Ashlee Taylor and husband Jorden; six great-grandchildren, Kyren, Kasen, Abby, Cole, Arya and Parker; nieces, nephews, in-laws, cousins and many friends.
Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m., Monday, December 5, 2022, at Trader Funeral Home, 12 Lotus Street, Dover, DE 19901, where friends may call from 10:30 – 11:30 am. Interment will follow at 2:00pm, at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 26669 Patriots Way, Millsboro, DE 19966.
