Robert Gene Cook

DOVER - Robert Gene Cook Sr. (Gene Cook) (aka B.G. Cook) of Slaughter Beach passed away at Delaware Hospice on February 13, 2013. He was 73 years old. Gene was born November 15, 1939 in Ridgley, Tennessee, the son of the late Lura Mae Brusewitz and James Cook. Gene will always be remembered for his talented singing in many local bands including The Gene Cook Band, Cook-N-Good, Delaware Power and Rock and Sour Grapes, among the many. "American Trilogy" was his favorite song and those who heard him sing it will never forget. He also worked in advertising, most recently for WDSD Radio (where he retired in 2009) and also for WAFL Radio, Dover Nissan and the Delaware State News. Gene proudly served in the United States Air Force. He was a member of the Cedar Neck Church. Gene is loved and will be missed by all whose lives he touched with his music, his quiet charm and his sense of humor. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Bunny Cook, his brother, Jim Cook, his sister, Betsy Green, his sister-in-law, Janet Cope and his beloved stepfather, Woody Brusewitz. Gene is survived by his son, Rob Cook, his daughter and son-in-law, Susan (Kissy) and Steve Lee, his daughters of the heart, Joann Kellam and Su Chafin, his brothers and sisters-in-law, Jerry and Phyllis Cook and Don and Linda Linder, his sister and brother-in-law, Nan and Ralph Miller, his special friend and sister-in-law Laura Schaeffer, his sisters-in-law and brothers in-law: Shirley Perez, Linda and Billy Hogg, Helen Parker-Bragg, Charlie Cope, Mack and Pat Parker, and Dick and Joyce Parker, his devoted dog Bo, several very special nieces and nephews and many wonderful friends. Memorial Services will be _Manday Feb. 18, 2013 11 AM with Pastor Steve Peterman officiating. Family and friends will gather together for a celebration of his life at the Slaughter Beach Memorial Volunteer Fire Company, 357 Bay Avenue, Slaughter Beach. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. The family requests that memorial contributions be given to Delaware Hospice Inc., 100 Patriots Way, Milford, DE 19963.
