Paul Tommy Chike Jr.'s Obituary
Paul T. “Tommy” Chike, Jr.
Tommy Chike passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, May 13, 2017 from a heart attack. He was 56.
Tommy was born on June 21, 1960, Ft. Pierce FL, son of late Paul & Jane Chike, also of Dover. He was a proud graduate of the Dover High School Class of 1978. He served in the United States Navy from 1981 – 1986 on the USS Carl Vinson Nuclear Aircraft carrier. Tommy was aboard for commissioning of this ship and was granted permission to invite his dad to meet him in Hawaii and travel back to California for the maiden voyage. This was Tommy’s most memorable, most proud and fondest memory!
Upon completing his active and reserve duty, Tommy remained in California until returning to Dover in 2003 where he worked for Sears Appliances until November 2015. During his 17-year stint in CA, he was a loyal Dodgers fan until returning to his true loves – the Philadelphia Phillies and Eagles!
Tommy was a kind, gentle soul that embraced and adapted to life’s challenges. He knew every 70’s musical artist and the lyrics to every song. Tommy followed every sporting event from local high schools and colleges to professional teams. Above all and most importantly, Tommy was a compassionate caregiver to his mother the last year of her life.
Survived by his sister, Darlene (C.A.) Boyd, New Bern, NC, two nieces Dr. Courtney L (Chris) Voshell, Dover, DE, Caitlyn E Walpole, Bel Air, MD. Brother-In-Law Mark G Walpole, Dover, DE, three Aunts Dr. Katherine M Laster, Burbank, CA, Patty Woodard, West Lake Village, CA, Linda J Holloway, Seaford, DE, his dearest friends Denny & Annie Hoebee, Alan Swygert and a host of cousins.
We invite Tommy’s extended family and friends to join us for a Celebration of Life service to be held at Barratt’s Chapel, 6362 Bay Road, Frederica, DE on June 9th at 2:00 pm.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Kent County SPCA in Tommy’s name. Arrangements by Trader Funeral Home. Letters of condolences may be sent to www.traderfh.com.
