Patricia Ann Hufnal's Obituary
Patricia Ann Hufnal peacefully departed from her earthly life on June 20, 2024 at the Country Rest Home, Greenwood, DE She was a singular person in many ways, not because she was so much different than everyone else, but because she was a person of singularity. Having graduated from Dover High School in 1959, she went to work a single month later for Delaware Farm Credit where she remained on the accounting staff for forty loyal years, her single job. If you wanted to call her at any time in her life, chances are you dialed the numbers 3068. Those numbers were assigned to the Hufnals when Pat was a child growing up on a farm on Chestnut Grove Road in the days when phone numbers were only four digits and customers were on "party" lines. As of most recently she could have still been reached at those same four digits, but with today's preceding digits of 302-734. She belonged to only one church, namely People's Church of Dover. Maritally, she remained single throughout her life. She bought only one home for herself, a condo unit at English Village, where she served on its Board. Affectionately known as "Patsy", she was easy going and always aimed to please, which often caused Pat to be late or behind schedule. Many Christmas Eve, her younger brother would be waiting for her until Midnight or later to finish wrapping gifts for the children and deliver them to my home. Of course, each gift still needed a bow as she had not gotten to that yet. About the only thing she did fast was drive. Chronically late for work, she was also nicknamed "The Blue Streak" because of her car repeatedly careening into her parking spot at work. Her primary "hobby" arose from singular, loving, generous heart. She doted on her nieces and nephews, standing in lines to buy them movie tickets or latest "hot" game or toy. Later in life after the children had long moved away, she devoted her life to taking the best care of her aging mother she could humanly do. Sprinkled among those years were many instances where she assisted her brothers in whatever they needed help doing. She was singular alright. And she will be singularly missed. So to you, Patsy, I offer a single word: peace. Pat was preceded in death by her parents, Austin and Irene Hufnal, her brother Frederick A. Hufnal. Pat is survived by her two brothers, William A. Hufnal and Dr. Thomas R. Hufnal (Martha), 3 nieces and 3 nephews. The family would like to express heartfelt and sincere appreciation to Pat's caregivers Rita Byler, Jewel Collison, Doriece Gingerich, and Emily Byler; the staff at Country Rest Home of Greenwood, the staff of Compassionate Care Hospice, especially , Carol Brittingham, RN. These women went above and beyond to provide excellent care for our dear sister. Interment will be private. A memorial service will be held at Asbury UM Church, 20 West Mt. Vernon Street, Smyrna, DE June 28, 2024. Visitation will begin at 11 AM, the memorial service will begin at noon.
