Mildred S. Vodvarka, 91
Hartly – Mildred S. Vodvarka passed away peacefully on October 03, 2015 in Bayhealth Medical Center, Dover.
She was raised in Hartly, Delaware, the daughter of Anna Schweitzer Burris Slaughter. She attended Hartly Public School and graduated from John Bassett Moore High School, Class of 1942, as the Salutatorian.
She followed high school with work in Washington, D.C. Her working career as a bookkeeper and accountant included employment at Sears and Roebuck, Coty, Inc., and finally with Townsend Brothers Chevrolet in Dover.
She was an avid reader, gardener and homemaker who loved her baseball games and ice-skating, tracking the weather for planting and harvesting, and the time for hummingbirds to leave and return.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, Joseph S. Vodvarka and her daughter-in- law of 32 years, Nancy Rochester Vodvarka. She is survived by her daughter Nancy, her son Joseph, her granddaughters Danica Collins, Laura Massey, Ashley Johnson and Traci Vodvarka, five great-grandchildren and her many nieces and nephews.
A viewing and visitation will be held Wed. Oct. 7, at Trader Funeral Home, 12 Locust Street, Dover, where friends may call at 11:00. The service will be at 1:00, followed by interment at Sharon Hills Memorial Park, Dover.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to the Hartly Volunteer Fire Company Ambulance Fund, P.O. Box 28, Hartly, DE. 19953.
