Michael George Price's Obituary
Michael Price of Dover passed away peacefully at his home on Monday morning, May 15th with his family by his side. They are heartbroken, as Mike fought bravely against a rapid disease that afforded him little time to say goodbye.
However short, Mike’s life was fulfilled. He was born on August 17th, 1958 to Sandra and Thomas Price in Seaford. The oldest of four children, he lived a childhood that was defined by his duty and commitment to care for, protect, and teach his younger siblings Alan, Roger and Lisa. This adult-like maturity, however, didn’t stop Mike from having fun and being rowdy with his closest friends.
In fact, time spent with these friends helped form Mikes love for the beach, and ultimately led him to meet the love of his life, Terry, while on a trip there in 1975. Terry was from New Castle, but the couple didn’t let distance separate them, as they penned their love letters and visited each other from both ends of the state. Mike and Terry recently celebrated their 42nd anniversary on March 7th, 2023. Throughout Mike’s life, there was nothing better than spending time with Terry at the beach, enjoying walking the boardwalk, and eating at their favorite restaurants.
Mike was passionate about hair styling. He and Terry opened their own salon, Michael’s Hair Care, in Dover, in 1982. MHC is currently in its 41st year in business.
The teaching aspect of Mike’s childhood extended into the prime of his life as he and Terry raised their three sons – Kyle, Ryan, and Thomas. While each son had his own passions and identity, Mike supported and mentored each of them. He was very proud of his boys and the men they grew to be.
Mike also loved to mentor and help others. Particularly, he was very involved with Dover Little League for a good portion of his sons’ childhoods. During this time, he coached many kids on how to not just be a better ballplayer, but a better person.
Mike was very glad as his family grew to include two daughter-in-laws – Megan and Ashley. These girls gave Mike some of his most prized possessions - his grandchildren, Caeden, Colton and Kylen. “The boys” and “His Girls” brought Mike so much joy in his final decade-plus. Mike loved watching Caeden and Colton play baseball and wrestle, and swimming with Kylen at her pool in the Florida sunshine.
Mike focused more on himself in his later years, as he became an avid cyclist. He participated in many races and won many medals, but most notably, he was elated to have made the Senior Olympics in Santa Fe, NM in 2019. He also spent a lot of time at Walt Disney World in Florida, where he was proud to have two sons employed. Mike loved visiting his Florida family, and he and Terry were planning to move there to spend the next phase of their life.
We celebrate Mike for the man he was. For the father, brother, mentor, and friend he was. He was loving but stubborn. Caring yet particular. He liked what he liked. Mike was a positive influence on so many people. He inspired confidence. He taught a particular drive - To never give up. To never back down. To live life to the fullest and to enjoy the time you have with those you love. Mike will be deeply missed, but his qualities will live on in all of those who he so positively influenced.
A final visitation for Michael Price will take place at Traders Funeral Home on Monday May 22nd from 1-4, with a small, celebratory service at 4. In Lieu of flowers, his family encourages all to contribute to an organization in their life that they feel embodies Mikes virtues and characteristics.
