Lottie May Edwards Deuble, 94
DOVER
Lottie May Edwards Deuble of Dover passed away peacefully, Tuesday, April 11, 2017, at the Country Rest Home in Greenwood. She was 94.
Lottie was born July 2, 1922, in Franklinton, North Carolina, daughter of the late Lizzie Oakley and Kenneth Kenzie Edwards. At seven years of age she moved to Virginia and lived in McKenney, and then Colonial Heights, Virginia. During World War II she worked for C&P Telephone Company at which time she met and married 1st Lt. Harold W. Deuble while he was serving in the U.S. Army. After the war they settled in Dover. They were married over 60 years, until he passed away in 2003.
She was a member of First Baptist Church and held many positions of service. In 1976 Lottie and Harold moved to the Crow Indian Reservation in Prior, Montana, serving for two years as ABC Missionaries among the Crow Native American Indians. After returning home to Dover in 1978, she wrote a book about their time on the Reservation entitled “The Pierced Heart.” She traveled seven times to the Holy Lands and enjoyed speaking in churches, schools, and clubs about her trips to the Middle East. She enjoyed being a member of Dover Camera Club, Girl Scouts, Century Club, and The Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR). She loved art, writing, reading, photography, and she lived a full life.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband; three sisters and three brothers; and a son-in-law, Joseph Scherry.
She is survived by three daughters and one son-in-law, Maria and Henry “Sandy” Pries of Magnolia, Harolyn “Lyn” Scherry of Wilmington and Janet Larry of Fairfax, Virginia; a granddaughter and grandson-in-law, Kristi Pries and Gene Pleasanton of Dover; four grandsons, Chad Pries of Felton, Richard Griffith, III of Wilmington, and Nicholas Larry and Lucas Larry both of Cincinnati, Ohio; many nieces and nephews; and many loving friends.
The family would like to thank her friend and caregiver, Betty Bennett, of Dover, and the Country Rest Home in Greenwood for their loving, compassionate and professional care.
Services will be 12 noon, Thursday, April 20th in First Baptist Church in Dover, where friends and family may call one hour earlier. The Rev. Daniel Taylor, pastor, will officiate.
Burial will be in Sharon Hills Memorial Park, Dover.
