Lee C. Severson's Obituary
Dover – Lee Charles Severson passed away comfortably on Sunday, November 21, 2021 surrounded by his family.
He was born in Dover on May 12, 1942, the son of the late Lee David Severson and Anna Elizabeth Bradley Severson.
In 1960, Lee served as a plank owner on the USS Enterprise CVA(N)-65 U.S. Navy aircraft carrier for 4 years. He completed multiple tours in Italy, France, Spain, Greece, Sicily, Lebanon, and was on board the Big “E” during the Cuban Missile Crisis blockade in 1962. After his military service, he worked as a diesel mechanic for over 18 years with Preston Trucking. He was nicknamed Sod (Sod buster) because of his farm upbringing and Kojak because of his shaved head. He was also well known for his handlebar mustache! Lee retired from New Castle County Vo-Tech School District after 11 years. He was a lifetime member of the Cheswold Volunteer Fire Company. He held the office of Deputy Fire Chief, 1st Assistant Chief, and 2nd Assistant Chief for 11 years and responded to over 1,000 calls during his time.
He enjoyed his time with the Cheswold Fire Company. He loved socializing and always had a welcoming smile and greeting. His pastimes included collecting coins and painting outdoor lawn ornaments. He enjoyed playing cards with friends and family. He loved watching western movies, especially ones that included John Wayne.
He was predeceased in death by his sister Laura Diane Severson; and brother Vincent “Tinker” Severson.
He is survived by his wife, Audrey Severson; his siblings, John Karl Severson, and Benjamin L. and Beverly Severson; his sister-in-law, Diane Severson; his son, Duane D. and Lara Severson; their children David, Katie, and Tyler; his daughter, Donna Lee Fowler; her son, Leo Ryan Fowler; his daughter, Pamela Severson; and a host of nieces and nephews.

A public viewing will be held at Trader Funeral Home in Dover on November 29th between 10:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. A private burial with full military honors will be held at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Sussex County.
