L. Leslie LeCompte, 93
Dover – Les LeCompte of Dover passed away Saturday, September 13, 2014 at Bayhealth, Kent General Hospital, Dover, surrounded by his loving family. He was 93.
Born in Farmington, DE, he was the son of the late John L. LeCompte and Anna Dietrich LeCompte Johnson.
Mr. LeCompte proudly served his country in the United States Army during World War II. He worked as comptroller for Wesley College, an accountant for Texaco and Pardee Oil Companies before retiring from his final career of 33 years as Administrative Assistant to the Chief Engineer of the Department of Transportation for the State of Delaware.
Les loved baseball. He was a big Phillies fan and jumped at the chance to attend a live game whenever possible. He was active in scorekeeping and coaching with the Dover Little League from 1954-1959, Dover Pony League from 1960-1962, American Legion Post 1963-1965. His other hobbies included fishing and clock repair.
Les was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church, Dover where he served as greeter for many years. He was a Master Mason with Union Lodge No. 7 A.F. & A.M. for over 60 years, a member of the Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 850 and a life member of the VFW.
He is preceded in death by his loving wife of 58 years, Elma Pratt LeCompte; step-father Clem Johnson, Sr. and step-brother Clem Johnson.
He is survived by his son Jack LeCompte and his wife Florene of Dover; granddaughter Teri LeCompte Carter, her husband J.J. and their children Brady, Dalton, Maddie, Caroline and Jameson of Milford; grandson John (Spanky) L. LeCompte, III of Camden; grandson Jeffrey W. LeCompte of Dover; brother Brit LeCompte of Lynchburg, VA; and step-sister Lois Finley and her husband Ted of Dover.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, September 18, 2014 from 5pm-7:30pm with a Masonic Service at 7:30pm at Wesley United Methodist Church, Dover. The funeral service will begin at 11am on Friday, September 19, 2014 at Wesley United Methodist Church, Dover. Interment will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Smyrna.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Wesley United Methodist Church, 209 South State Street, Dover, DE 19901 or to Union Lodge No. 7, 1478 Wyoming Mill Road, Dover, DE 19904. Donations to Union Lodge No. 7 will be used to fund scholarships for students.
