John Lyman Sipple Jr.'s Obituary
John “Jack” Lyman Sipple, Jr., was born on October 5, 1956, in Dover, DE, to John Lyman and Grace Mae Hurd Sipple, and was the second of three children.
Jack loved music and was a passionate lead guitar player in his early life. He played in the band Symphony while at Dover Central Middle School, and multiple bands as an adult, most notably as the lead guitarist in Chord Monkeys, with his brother Michael Sipple, in the 1990s.
Jack enjoyed learning and earned a Bachelor of Science Environmental Health from Delaware State College and Masters of Science Applied Chemistry from Delaware State University. He was a leader and a mentor, as demonstrated throughout his entire career as an Environmental Scientist IV within the Division of Air Quality in the Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control. Jack was respected by his peers, local and national, as a subject matter expert on any project he was a part of, especially in regard to his expertise in the complexity of planning and implementation requirements for the National Ambient Air Quality Standards for fine particulate matter. Jack was also appreciated and admired as a mentor, as he would help guide and teach new staff, just as a Jedi Master would guide and train their Padawan.
In his spare time, Jack would relax with a good PC game, playing with his wife and loving soulmate, Terry.
Jack passed away on Monday, June 12, 2023, in the arms of his heartbroken wife, Terry.
Jack is survived by his wife of 16½ years, Terry, and their two cats, Jax and Leo; his sister Teresa Singley and husband Scott; niece Melanie Schur; great-niece Samantha Schur; great-nephews Ryan and Gregg Schur. Aunts Laura Richter, Marylou Hurd, and Clara Mercer. He was preceded in death by his parents Lyman and Grace, his brother Michael Alan Sipple, nephew Matthew Schur, and beloved cat, Spot.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
