John Frederock Hebel's Obituary
John Frederick Hebel was born on 11 May 1930 in Fierro, New Mexico. He was 92 on 7 July 2022 when he succumbed to MDS, a bone marrow disease. John was a dreamer and innovator who began his career by enlisting in the US Navy. After separating, he earned his bachelor’s degree at Wake Forest University with a degree in physics. He spent his career in service in the aerospace industry and worked on the Magellan Spacecraft that visited Venus; Copperhead, an antitank weapon; and LANTIRN a targeting pod for the F-16. John’s love of aviation and science led him to build several hot air balloons and work on other projects including a replica of the first aircraft the Montgolfier hot air balloon which was displayed in the National Air and Space Museum in Washington, DC. John was preceded in death by his parents, Nolan and Orleana Hebel; spouse, Sandra; children Ruth Anne, Mark, Laurie; and grandchild Christopher. He is survived by his brother James (and his wife Diane) Hebel, his children Susanne Kroh, Timothy (and his wife Lynn) Hebel, Maryanne Hebel, and Helen Rolling. John was always making things to create a better future. He will be missed greatly. Public service will be held on July 29 at 1 pm at the Delaware Veteran's Memorial Cemetery in Millsboro, Delaware.
