Joan M. Buxton's Obituary
Joan M. Buxton, 72, passed away at home on Tuesday, Sept. 12, 2023, from complications with her battle against cancer. She was born on January 30, 1951, in Baltimore, MD to the late Archie B. and Alice Marie Blair.
Spending her entire school years with the Capitol School District, she graduated from Dover High School in 1970. She spent most of her employment with Super Soda Centers and then DAFB as part of their housekeeping team for Eagle Rest Inn (NAF). She became disabled while there and spent the remainder of her years being her mother's caregiver until her passing.
Joan loved all things Disney; especially Goofy and Mickey. Working outside making her yard beautiful for each holiday, as well as seeing her mother overjoyed by the blooming buds all around, were her favorite pastimes. She was a stubborn ol mule who did things her way, down to her last days. She did what she could, in the ways she could for those closest to her. She is survived by many family and friends.
Most notably, she leaves behind her beautiful daughter, Kelly (Matt) Scarbriel of Felton, brothers Wayne (Carol) Sapp of Viola and Charles Blair of Marydel, and sisters Jean Aiken of Dover and Doris Carey of Sharon, PA. Additionally, Joan had 3 very special grandchildren she loved with all of her heart; Kortney (William) Green, Madison Scarbriel, and Xavier Scarbriel, as well as 5 great-grands: Caius, Cayson, and Caelum Green, and Skyler and Kian Scarbriel-Emory. She also leaves behind her best friend and caregiver, Raquel Diaz, her beloved furbabies, Pugsly and Cooper, as well as Aunts Grace Johnson and Emily Emerson, and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Joan was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Frank, Sam, Bob, Billy, and Danny Blair, sisters Janet Blair, Rose Bennett, Deanie Buxton, and niece Jeri Garber.
Services will be held Tuesday Sept. 19 at Trader Funeral Home, 12 Lotus St., Dover, DE at 12 noon, family and friends may call at 11 am. In place of flowers, please consider a donation to Trader Funeral Home to help defray funeral costs.
