Harry L. Jackson's Obituary
Harry L. Jackson
Harry L. Jackson passed away on Monday, June 1, 2015 after a long battle with Parkinson’s disease.
Harry was born in Bowers Beach, Delaware on March 29, 1943, son of the late Thomas Lenwood Jackson and Aleina Jackson Walters.
He was employed throughout his life at Reichol Chemical, American General Ins., The Stevenson House, Plastic Materials, Penn Jersey; he was a Mechanic by trade owning and operating “Harry’s 66” Gas Station in Dover for many years, he continued his trade for most of his life in some form, and before becoming medically disabled he owned and operated his own Dump Truck.
Harry never met a stranger, his sense of humor and unwavering honesty is always what people remembered most about him. He was always a “busy man” in his younger years he loved to hold dances in the basement of his family home, go Camping, watch Wrestling, listen and go to NASCAR races, host a picnic or Pig Roast with family and friends. He was always up for a game of cards, spending a lot of “free time” playing poker or rummy with friends. His love of dogs brought many four legged companions to his life. As his disease progressed and took more of his abilities he would enjoy spending his time every week going to Spence’s Bazaar with his wife, growing a garden, putting together a beautiful puzzle to frame and give away, or building something from wood. Many family, friends and strangers have something built by Harry’s love of wood.
He was a Life member of the Bowers Fire Company, joining on July 1, 1963. His family home held the very first meeting of the Bowers Fire Company, Inc. He served as Treasurer and Trustee as well as serving on the Budget and Finance Committee for several years. He was presented his Life Membership in 2003.
