FELTON - Harry J. Harding, SSgt, 94, died June 13, 2015, He was born Jan. 2, 1921 at Philadelphia, PA. The son of the late Robert and Eleanor Harding. On Dec. 8, 1941 he entered the USMC and served with the MAG-24,HQSqdn. Military stations/training included Parris Island;Quantico;NASJacksonville;(school) Santa Barbara; Eva; Efate, Banika; Bougainville; Guadalcanal (hospital); Espiritu Santos (hospital); Seagate, NY (hospital);Brooklyn Navy Yard. Memorable experiences: Near miss from a 77;majestic sight of Mt. Bandana on Bougainville. He was dischated April 12, 1945. His medals/awards include American Theater Ribbon, Asiatic-Pacific and WWII Victory Medal. He married Irene F. Smuda on Jan. 3, 1948. They have four children: Gerald and his wife Shirley of AL, Susan Placona and her husband John of VA, Michael and his wife Suparp of TX and Gina Richardson and her husband Steve of DE; three grandchildren: Gerald, Jr., Melissa Almond and Adrienne Hirt; and one great-grandchild, Harding worked for US Customs Service as a US Customs inspector at the Dover AFB, DE. He is a member of the Marine Corps League and DAV. Enjoys making fishing rods, genealogy, gardening, fishing and reading.
Services will be Friday 6-19-2015 at 11 AM Trader Funeral Home 12 Lotus Street Dover. Friends may call one hour before the time of the services. Burial will be at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetary Millsboro, DE at 1 PM
