Grover Duck Rigby's Obituary
Grover Cleveland “Duck” Rigby left this world peacefully to be with his loving wife and the Lord on Thursday, February 4th, 2021, at the age of 81 years young.. He was the youngest son to the late Felix and May (McClements) Rigby. He was born on the family farm in Hazlettville, DE on January 24th, 1940 during a snow storm. He grew up with fond memories of his siblings working and having fun on the farm. He was very proud of his family and enjoyed spending time telling stories about his family and life experiences. Grover attended Dover High School before enlisting in the United States Army. He was a proud veteran and often spoke about his time spent serving his country in Germany and France. After returning from the Army, he worked for the Civil Service at the Dover Airforce Base. He married Chrystyna Mandycz in 1963 and started their life together. In 1971, he purchased his family farm in Chapeltown, Delaware. He became a part time farmer as well as a full time appliance repair technician. Later becoming a successful owner of “Rigby`s Appliance Repair” . He retired from the business and spent his retirement enjoying time with friends and family, while caring for his disabled wife. Grover was active all his life and enjoyed many pastimes. He was an avid hunter and played in many sporting leagues. He was a highly skilled pool player as he played in national pool competitions in Las Vegas and competed in local pool leagues. He was an active member of the CW Moose lodge since 1977. Most of this time was dedicated to his family. He was involved in his children's sports and coached many Marydel Little League baseball teams over the years. He loved baseball, wrestling and was the number one fan of whatever sport his children and grandchildren participated in. He was preceded in death by his wife Chrystyna Mandycz Rigby on November 11, 2020, infant daughter Karen Maria Rigby, granddaughter Cassie Rigby Jones, brothers Roland, Thomas “Buddy”, Reese, Linwood “Reds” Rigby, sisters Daisy “Sweety” Glanden, Beatrice E. Rigby Kemp, Lola Mae “Sis” Sapp and Lillian “Turk” Johnson. He is survived by sons Jeffrey Rigby, Michael Rigby (Robin), daughter Sandra “Chrissie” Rigby all of Marydel, DE; Daughter in law, Renee Rigby of Magnolia DE; Grandchildren Jason W. Rigby (Sophie) of Wilmington, DE, Zachary Jones, Jenna Rigby, Ryan Rigby, and Andrew Rigby all of Marydel, DE; Great grandchildren Conor, Abigail, and Riley Rigby all of Wilmington, DE. He is survived by his sister, Elizabeth “Libby” Rigby Hebert of Dover, DE, nieces Audi Rigby Hollinger and Doris Whealton all of Dover, DE and host of nieces, nephews and cousins in Delaware. Donations can be made to the American Lung Association or Caesar Rodney Wrestling Boosters. Family and friends may do a walk through greeting Thursday Feb. 11, 2021 from 11 AM to 12:30PM at Trader Funeral Home 12 Lotus Street Dover. Services will be at 12:30 and burial will be at Odd Fellows Cemetery Camden. In consideration of protecting the family and friends health, public health guidelines enacted for the prevention of the spread of covid-19 virus, limitations on gatherings, physical distancing, use of hand sanitation and masks are in place.
