ERNEST (Ernie) W. MELVIN SR., 86
Ernest Melvin Sr passed away on Friday, August 9th, 2024, at Complete Care at Silver Lake nursing home. He was born on May 18th, 1938 in Harrington to the late Frank Melvin Sr and Evelyn (Sherwood) Melvin. During his life Ernie worked for the Delaware State Department of Transportation where he would eventually retire after many years of service. Ernie enjoyed watching Westerns, Baseball and dining out at various local restaurants. His favorite baseball team was the Philadelphia Phillies. He spent the last year and a half of his life at Complete Care at Silver Lake where he enjoyed participating in numerous activities such as bowling, bingo and arts and crafts. He also enjoyed interacting with staff and other residents on a daily basis.
In addition to his parents, Ernie was preceded in death by his wife, Roxanne Melvin, brothers Frank Melvin Jr., James (Janet) Melvin, Ronald (Sylvia) Melvin and sister, Doris (William) Dolby. Sister-n-law, Sandra Morris.
Ernie is survived by his son Ernest W. Melvin Jr. (Sunny); daughter, Sara Orlando; brother-n-law, Kenneth Bodine; sister-n-law, Deloris Dill (Mitchell); five grandchildren, Wesley and Mckenzie Melvin; Christian, Noah, and Lucas Orlando; as well as many nieces, nephews and friends.
A visitation for family and friends will be held on Thursday, August 15th, 2024 from 1100 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Trader’s Funeral Home, 12 Locus Street, Dover. Burial will be private.
