Dovie C. Duncan, 95
DOVER — Dovie C. Duncan passed
away Tuesday, Apr. 11, 2017, at the
Country Rest Home, Greenwood. She
was born on Aug. 8, 1921, in Easley,
S.C., daughter of the late John and
Lucile Phillips.
Dovie was preceded in death by her
husband, Earl L. Duncan; parents,
John and Lucile Phillips; sister, Sarah
Crowe; brothers, Lester, RM, Melvin
and infant boy Phillips.
Dovie is survived by her three children,
Earl Lewis Duncan, Jr. (Ruth),
Hartly, Lucille Pearson (Tom), Dover,
Pearl Garlock (Jay), Dover; and brother,
Len Phillips (Debbie), Grear, S.C.;
two grandchildren, Deborah Shepherd
(Brian), Landenberg, Pa. and
Daniel Garlock (Cindy), El Paso, Texas;
and two great-grandchildren, Jarrett
Shepherd, Landenberg, Pa.; and
Danielle Garlock, Dover.
Dovie never met a stranger. She especially
loved children and worked
for many years in child care managing
Doll House Nursery I & II in Dover.
Her favorite past time was working
in her gardens (vegetable and flower,
especially her rose garden) which
she enjoyed sharing with friends and
neighbors. She also loved bingo, crocheting,
sewing and reading (a lifelong
enjoyment she passed on to her
children). She was a 47 year member
of First Southern Baptist Church of
Dover. Over the years, Dovie was very
active in volunteer work with Family
Services, Base Thrift Shop, Girl
Scouts, Cub Scouts, Sunday School
and Training Union.
Burial will be private at Arlington
National Cemetery with her husband.
