Dorothy Coverdale Curl (Dottie)
Dottie Curl of Dover, DE began her new life with Jesus on Wednesday, March 27, 2013. She was the daughter of Hammon E. and Laura Farrar Coverdale of Magnolia, DE. Dottie graduated from Caesar
Rodney High School in 1941, and received her nursing diploma from The Memorial Hospital School of Nursing, Wilmington, DE Class of 1944. As a registered Nurse, she was dedicated to her profession. She worked at Children's Hospital in Washington, DC during WWII and later worked with Dr. Margaret Handy in establishing a pediatric ward at The Memorial Hospital in Wilmington. She taught nursing students at DTTC, Terry Campus, and was always available as a private duty nurse whenever she was needed.
Dottie lead a full and meaningful life in witness and service to her Lord and Savior and to her family and many friends. Besides her parents, she is preceded in death by her sister, Evelyn L. Glatfelder, her husband of 35 yrs., Welden "Earl" Curl, and her granddaughter Karen Evelyn Garey. Dottie was always very active in community service and activities, and has always been a proud patriot and advocate of our military men and women. She participated in both organizing and performing roles as far back as the Kent General Hospital Jr. Board fund raising "Follies" days, she was also an active participant in the Choral Society, Community Singers and Community Players along with her dear friend Margaret Storey. More recently she has been active in multiple Women's Groups throughout Kent and Sussex County in various capacities, but most notably as the devotions leader for the organization. She enjoyed painting, ceramics, and stamping hobbies and became quite proficient in creating her own greeting cards. These cards are a loving memento of her gift to her family and friends. Dottie leaves behind a sister, Phyllis Ann Coverdale, Miller, a sister-in-law, Betty Curl Brunner, a daughter Patricia A. Wagner and her husband Charles Wagner, 3 sons, Dale W Curl and his wife Vickey, Richard A. Curl, and Jeffrey T. Curl and his wife Sherrell Harris-Curl, 8 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. A celebration of life renewed for Dottie Curl will be held at the Grace Presbyterian Church, 350 McKee Rd, Dover, DE. 19904 on Monday, April 1, 2013, where friends may call from 11:00 am to 11:45. Services will begin at 12:00 and interment will be at Lakeside Cemetery, Dover. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations and support of local veteran programs, especially The Wounded Warrior and
The Paralyzed Veterans programs
