Brenda M Bender's Obituary
CAMDEN – Brenda M. Bender, 83, passed away of cancer on Sept. 3, 2017. Born in Kenton, England, June 14, 1934, to the late Cecil and Lillian Goodchild, she moved to the United States after marrying Glenn R. Bender in 1955. She raised four children as a U.S. Air Force wife while travelling extensively across the U.S. The family was stationed at Dover AFB in 1972, ultimately settling in the area.
Brenda was a loving wife, mom, grandma and beloved friend to many. She brought with her and instilled in her family many English traditions. She enjoyed reading, traveling, shopping, dining out, line dancing, entertaining, and socializing with friends and family. She volunteered with Delaware Hospice from 2001-06 providing bereavement support.
In addition to her parents and husband, Brenda was preceded in death by her son, Glenn N. Bender and her sister, Barbara Onley. She is survived by three daughters, Joanne Gladden (David) of Camden, Robin Lawrence (Jack) of Camden, Laurie Facius (Dennis) of Eldersburg, MD; daughter-in-law, Janet Bender of Warner Robins, GA; five grandchildren, Jamie Lawrence Thimmes (Greg), Ryan Lawrence (Sarah), Alex Gladden, Jake Facius and Samantha Facius; three great-grandsons, Nicholas, Wyatt and Owen Thimmes; brother-in-law, Gale Bender; a niece and two nephews.
The memorial service is at 11:00 AM, with visitation beginning at 10:30 AM on Friday, Sept. 8, 2017, at Trader Funeral Home, 12 Lotus St., Dover, DE 19901. Interment will be private. Brenda and family thank the kind, compassionate Delaware Hospice staff who cared for her in her final weeks. Contributions to Delaware Hospice, or flowers are welcome.
