Barbara Barbie McCormick's Obituary
Barbara Lynn McCormick (Barbie), 66, of Harrington, Delaware died Monday November 26th, 2018 after a long courageous battle with cancer. Barbara was born to Frank W. Evans and Edith Bullock Evans on May 20th, 1952 in Dover, Delaware.
Barbara graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in Richmond, Virginia in 1970 and received a degree in Nursing from Wesley College in 1989. Barbara worked her adult life caring for others at Kent General Hospital until her retirement in 1995.
Barbara was preceded in death by her first husband, Walter W. Caldwell in 1984, her foster father, Harry L. Sizer in 1994, her foster brother, Ronald G. Sizer in 1994, her second husband, Edward C. McCormick in 1995, her foster mother, Francis B. Sizer in 2000, her mother Edith Bullock Evans in 2002 and her father Frank W. Evans in 2010.
She is survived by three children; Jennifer L. DesLauriers (Kevin), Diana C. Sanchez and Michael E. McCormick (Rebecca), five grandchildren; Kristin D. Braun, Tiffany N. Pendexter (Justin), Alexander E. Sanchez, Kalea R. DesLauriers and Michael E. McCormick Jr, two great grandchildren; Haley M. Pendexter and Hannah J. Pendexter, a sister, Pamela K. Kepfer and a brother David E. Evans, as well as several nieces and nephews.
Barbara made lifelong friends in Robin B. and Carl L. Simms as well as her Godson William R. L. Simms from Richmond, Virginia. She also gained a lifelong friendship in Robin A. and Arch DiPeppe from Fredericksburg, Virginia.
Barbara had a spirit that was always bright, funny, and sassy. She was known for her compassion and selfless acts towards all others near her. Barbara had a passion for nurturing her flower garden especially her roses. She found a deep love for animals especially her Yellow Breasted Macaw, Blue and her cat, Goldie. Barbara will always be remembered for her tradition of making Chex Mix and hosting Christmas Eve dinners each year for family and friends.
A memorial service will be held at Trader Funeral Home, 12 Lotus Street Dover, Delaware Wednesday, December 5th, 2018 at 12 o’clock noon.
It was Barbara’s wish to be cremated. A portion of her ashes will be interred at Hollywood Cemetery in Harrington, Delaware immediately following so that she may rest in peace with her beloved husband Edward. The remainder will be interred at Shrine Mont Retreat in Orkney Springs, Virginia in the spring.
