Obituary Barbara Ann Henshaw
June 20, 1933-February 3, 2016
Barbara A. Henshaw 82, of Smyrna Delaware, passed away at her home after a long illness surrounded by her family on February 3, 2016.
Born in Magnolia, Delaware was the daughter of Clark & Cora (mccolly) Whitney and was one of 9 children.
Barbara was preceded in death by her first husband Regis M. Steindl, her brothers Herbert, Benjamin, Richard and William Whitney, sisters Doris Shulties, Verna Wells and Jean Decker
She graduated from Caesar Rodney Senior High School, Camden Delaware.
Barbara worked for many years in the restaurant business including Betty’s Lunch and The Dover Diner; she would later co-own The Dover Diner.
Barbara worked for the Delaware Department of Motor Vehicle until she retired in 1993. She would later come out of retirement to work part time for the Motor Vehicle Department and then retire full time living in Smyrna, Delaware.
After retirement, she enjoyed reading, crocheting, cross word puzzles and watching television. Her favorite shows were Jeopardy and Days of Our Lives, which she enjoyed each and every day. She was also an avid cat owner, owning many pure bread Siamese cats.
She is survived by her Daughter Sandra Emerson , Son in Law Barry Emerson of Wilmington, Delaware , Son Michael Steindl, Daughter in Law Kathleen Steindl, Grandsons Matthew & Timothy Steindl all of Dover, De. Step Grandchildren, Matthew Emerson, Beth O’Patterson and Amanda Emerson, Sister Elsie Billbrough, along with numerous nieces and nephews.
At our mother’s request, burial will be private. In lieu of cards and flowers, charitable donations can be made to Delaware Hospice. Letters of condolences may be sent to www.traderfh.com
