Barbara A. "Babs" Book's Obituary
Barbara A. Book, (Babs), 89 of Vero Beach, Florida passed away on September 6, 2021. Babs was born June 21, 1932 in Philadelphia to Theodore A. and Edna Mae Fischer. She lived in Narberth, PA and attended schools on the Main Line in the Lower Merion School District. The family moved to Washington, DC and she graduated Anacostia High School in 1950. She had a modeling career in Philadelphia and employment with the Internal Revenue Service. She married Raymond F. Book Jr on September 4, 1954. She lived most of her life in Dover and in later years in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware prior to moving to Vero Beach in 1999. She served on the Junior Board of Kent General Hospital, Sprig and Twig Garden Club and served various Republican organizations. Babs worked as a secretary for the Republican side of the Delaware House of Representatives in the 1980’s. She was an avid golfer at Maple Dale Country Club in Dover and Rehoboth Beach Country Club serving on numerous committees. During her life in Dover she had a passion for playing bridge with her weekly bridge club friends. She continued her love of bridge in Rehoboth and at the Vero Beach Yacht Club. She enjoyed attending her children’s activities, hosting gatherings with her friends, golf trips, holiday decorating, theater, dancing, painting, flower arranging, the beach and a “night out” with her husband and friends.
Babs was predeceased by her parents and her husband. She is survived by her four children, Raymond (Kim), Carol Thomas (Michael) both of Long Neck, DE, Stephen (Lori) of Tequesta, FL and Theodore TAB of Felton, DE, grandchildren: Elizabeth, Barbara Anne, Katie, Lauren, Julia, Ryan, Kelsey, Sydney and Quincey, seven great-grandchildren and a brother Theodore Fischer (Pat) of Key Colony Beach, FL
All services will be held privately. In lieu of flowers the family asked for donations to be made to Delaware Hospice, 911 South DuPont Highway, Dover, Delaware 19901 or delawarehospice.org or VNA & Hospice Foundation, 1110 35th Lane, Vero Beach, FL 32960 or vnatc.org.
