Austin C Appenzeller's Obituary
Austin Appenzeller, a life-long farmer and resident of Sudlersville, MD, passed away on Oct. 29, 2017 at the age 90. Austin was born on Nov. 14, 1926, in Bristol, PA. to Charles and Margaret Decker Appenzeller. After spending his formative years in Pennsylvania, he proudly served in the US Army from 1950 - 1952, during the Korean War. He was honorably discharged from the Army in 1952. His family moved to Delaware in 1952 to continue the noble profession of farming. On Nov. 13, 1954, he married his lifelong partner, Roberta Helen Porter. In 1957, Roberta and Austin purchased and moved to their current farm in Sudlersville, MD. He was very proud of the fact that he was the only grower and producer of horseradish on the eastern shore his entire lifetime of farming. Austin was an active member of the Sudlersville Lions Club since 1962 and served three sessions as President; at the time of his death, he was a lifelong charter member of the Lions Club. His service to others was paramount in his memberships; he was also a member of Sudlersville Methodist Church and Farm Bureau of Queen Anne's County of MD. He is survived by his wife, Roberta; son, Michael Appenzeller (Donna) of Sudlersville, MD, daughter, Patricia Sherman (James) of Centreville, MD. He is also survived by his beloved grandchildren, Joshua Appenzeller (Jessica); Jeremy Appenzeller (Kara); Morgan Serman; Jamie Ensor (Daniel); Chelsea Sherman; and by five great grandchildren. He will be deeply missed by his many friends, family, and all who were lucky to known him. Services will be Sat. Nov. 4, 2017 at 12 noon and friends may call 11 am one hour before the time of the service at Trader Funeral Home 12 Lotus Street Dover, DE Burial will be at Barratts Chapel Frederica, DE.
