Sammie Lee Lamb He was born on May 22, 1933 in Dothan, AL & passed away on January 20, 2017 after a brief stay at the Delaware Hospice Center where he was surrounded by his family. Sam graduated from Rehobeth High School in Dothan, AL in May 1953 & was drafted into the Army that same year. He took basic training at Ft. Jackson, SC. He achieved the rank of Staff Sargent in the Signal Corp., Satellite Communications Division. While on tour in Germany he met, & married his wife, Margarete, of 43 years. During his twenty year, military career he also had tours in Taiwan, Hawaii & South Korea. Upon retirement from the Army he worked for eighteen years at DELDOT as a Traffic Signal Repairman. He held memberships with the Camden-Wyoming Moose Lodge 203, American Legion Walter L. Fox Post 2, the Camden VFW Post 3238, the DAV & the Modern Maturity Center. Since 2013 he was a resident at Heritage of Dover, where he loved to do crafts & engage in activities with the students at St. Johns Lutheran School. He was very outgoing, prone to laughter & was much loved by everyone. He is preceded in death by his wife, Margarete M. “Kartner”, daughter Sharon Lee Lamb, parents Tellie Morris & Lula Bell “Lee” Lamb, siblings; Mary Bell Childree, Kate Bagwell, Nettie Lou Bagwell, & Frank E. Lamb. Survived by daughters; Renee M. Butler (Thomas J. Butler) of Minneapolis, MN, Michelle L. O’Grady (John F. O’Grady, Jr.) of Smyrna, DE & Shirley A. Lee (Ben Lee) of Dover, DE, granddaughters; Shannon M. “Butler” Mogenson (Lucas Mogenson) of Alexandria, MN, Samantha A. Butler of Minneapolis, MN & Savannah V. Lee of Cambridge, MA, fiancé Charlotte Battin of Dover, DE, brother James E. Lamb of Enterprise, AL, two sister-in-law’s, numerous nieces & nephews. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 28th at Trader Funeral Home, 12 Lotus Street, Dover, DE 19901. Viewing between 10 & 11:30 a.m. Service at 11:30 a.m. Burial will be immediately afterwards at Sharon Hill Cemetery, 2928 Sharon Hill Road, Dover. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the DAV, P.O. Box 124, Camden, DE 19934.
