Mary G Wilson
March 5, 1921 - December 9, 2020
Mary G. Wilson, beloved mother, and wife of Joseph A. Wilson, passed away due to Covid-19 on Wednesday December 9, 2020 after 99 years of life. Born in Dover in 1921, daughter of Roland E. and Clara H. Garrison, Mary grew up on the Garrison Farm with three brothers, George, Gamaliel, and Elbert. Mary showed real talent as an artist in her youth. Sketches she made were imaginative and technically skilled. The financial hardships of the Great Depression prevented her from pursuing an artistic career. She graduated from Dover High School in 1938. After working in Forney’s Jewelers in Dover, Mary met Joseph. They fell in love, married, and shared 61 years of experiences. After a separation during WWII, they lived in New York City before settling back in the Dover area to start a family. They raised a daughter, Teena, and twins, Roy and Ray. Mary’s husband, Joe, always loved to drive and travel, so Mary and Joe started one of the first dealerships on the East Coast to sell recreational pickup campers in the late 1950’s. First named Wilson Coaches located in Rising Sun Delaware, they soon featured travel trailers and motor homes and eventually renamed the business RV’s by Wilson and moved it to US Rt 13 in Dover. In later years after Joe passed away, Mary enjoyed her quiet life in Dover. She had a deep faith in the Lord and was a member of People’s Church of Dover. Throughout her long life, Mary was steadfast in her belief that everyone should be treated with kindness and respect. She would always speak positively about every person she met. Mary believed in the values of honesty, decency, love towards others, and self-sacrifice, and she was always happy with the simple joys of life. Mary eventually moved to Westminster Village Assisted Living, where she lived for several years until her passing in the skilled nursing wing. The family wishes to express their appreciation to all the staff who assisted her as she aged. Mary is survived by her brother George T. Garrison of Dover, her daughter Teena W. McCoy of Dover, her sons Roy Wilson of Plymouth Meeting PA, and Ray Wilson of Cumberland ME, and by their wives, Ann and Karen, and by her grandchildren Edward Wilson, Benjamin Wilson, and Cristina Lieske. Also, by her niece and nephews, and two great grandchildren. Graveside services will be held on Thursday Dec. 17, 2020 at 1:30 PM at Lakeside Cemetery Dover.
