Sullivan, Brother Ralph Sullivan, granddaughter Erin Trowbridge, great grandson Raylan Hopkins, and his very good friend and son-in-law Michael Morris. He was survived by his wife June Sullivan of Bowers, his children Charles Trowbridge of Smyrna, William Trowbridge, Robert Trowbridge Sr & Doris Morris all of Bowers and Laura Yanero of Felton. Sonny was raised in foster care, on a farm, by Fletch & Elvy Alexander until he joined the Armed Forces in 1961. He served until 1964. His love for his country was great, and his respect for his fellow Veteran was even greater. He loved to tell stories of his time on the farm, in the military and time spent overseas. Sonny loved the fire service and Bowers Beach. He Joined Bowers Fire Co in 1965 and gave them 51 years of service. He Held the title of Ambulance Captain for many years and was also a past President. He was the first member to be awarded life memberships from both the Fire Company and the Auxiliary. He had a great admiration for what the Ladies of the Auxiliary did for the fire service. In 2003 he was honored to be presented with the Lifetime Achievement Award. Sonny was a mason by trade and loved to do odd jobs on the side when he was able. But his real passion was fishing. He cleaned fish on the docks at Bowers Beach for years and people came from states around just to watch him. When given the opportunity, Sonny purchased M&M Seafood in Little Creek. He loved this job and being his own boss. He believed in hard work and worked many long hours. When he “retired” he opened Sonny’s Bait & Tackle in Bowers Beach, where he made every rig by hand. You know the fishing season is on when you see the little red building opened up. The business will remain open and Sonny’s presence will always be felt there. Services will be held at the Bowers Fire Co Memorial Hall on Monday May 9th. There will be a viewing from 12:00 – 1:00pm and service will be from 1:00 – 2:00pm. Interment will be immediately following at the Barrett’s Chapel Cemetery in Frederica. Friends and family may return to the firehouse following interment for light fellowship. The family would like to ask for donations to be sent to the DE Hospice Center in Milford, DE for the great care that they took with their loved one.
