Steven B. McClead Sr.

Steven B. McClead, Sr. Steven B. McClead, Sr., 71, passed away surrounded by his family on Monday February 5, 2024. He was born May 14, 1952, in Winthrop, Massachusetts, son of the late Melvin and Catherine (Cherry) McClead. He is preceded in death by his parents, siblings, and wife of 51 years, June A. McClead. He is survived by his children, Steven B McClead Jr. of Templeville, MD and Shannon Timmons (Earl) of Clayton, DE, and his only grandson Earl Lee Timmons Jr. Steve was a graduate of Lenape High School (Medford, NJ). Soon thereafter he married the love of his life June (Hines) McClead, January 9, 1970. On August 12, 1970, he joined the United States Air Force and they moved to New Hampshire. He proudly served, stateside, during the Vietnam War as a Sargent at Pease Air Force Base in Portsmouth, New Hampshire. He was a heavy machine operator during his time in the Air Force and was honorably discharged from the military in November 1972. Steve then set out to raise his family by moving back home to New Jersey. He worked for Mt. Laurel Township and Public Service Electric and Gas Company for 30 years before finally retiring and moving to Maryland to be closer to his children. Steve enjoyed the outdoors from the time he was a child. He grew up on a farm where he and his family raised many animals, his father trained thoroughbred racehorses, and is where he developed his love of horses. Steve enjoyed hunting, spending time farming with his son, vacations with family, and he volunteered much of his time coaching his children’s sports teams. He spent countless hours practicing with and watching Shannon throughout her softball career, as a player and a coach. He enjoyed being part owner of promising thoroughbred racehorses. One of which won the 2020 Breeder’s Cup Classic and the Kentucky Derby, a horse named Authentic. Most recently, he found joy in raising and caring for his chickens. His greatest joy was spending time with his grandson Lee. Pop Pop taught Lee how to use tools as they worked together to build things, complete projects around the house, and landscape the yard. They had some fierce UNO card competitions and watched movies together. They particularly enjoyed Tombstone, which earned Pop Pop Steve the nickname Doc. They enjoyed their trips to Molly’s for hunting gear and were always talking about the day Lee would get the “Monster”. To Honor Steve’s memory, we are holding services on Saturday March 9, 2024, at Sudlersville Cemetery at 11:00 am. Following interment family and friends may gather at the Clayton Fire Hall for a celebration of life at 1:30. Flowers may be delivered to Trader Funeral Home or in lieu of flowers donations may be made to Deborah Heart and Lung Hospital in Browns Mills, New Jersey.
